| Over
the last half century, the Club has strongly promoted sports,
recreation and culture – from helping fund the Sports Institute
to aid in the construction of Hong Kong Park, Ocean Park and the
Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
The importance of the arts to the disabled was not overlooked
by the Trust. In 2003, we donated HK$27.71 million for a five-year
pilot scheme -- Jockey Club Arts for the Disabled Scheme. The
scheme aims to help people with disabilities to develop their
creative and artistic potential. The grant provides logistical
support for disabled artists and performers and opportunities
to display their work through community performances and art displays.
With a Trust donation of HK$1.47 million,
the Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival staged the "Jockey Club
Colourpolitan Project" in November 2003, bringing colour
into the lives of many young people by helping them to visualise
and interpret the multi-faceted nature of art.
