 The
Club over the years has played a vital role in supporting and developing
Hong Kong's medical services. It collaborates with Government and
local institutions to promote primary health care, improve facilities,
bring in new technology and education facilities and conduct research
to identify new approaches or solutions for treatment and prevention
of disease.
In 2003/2004, we donated a total of $122.69 million to seven public
hospitals to speed up the replacement of essential medical equipment
with more technologically advanced ones. With this new equipment,
treatment of patients will be improved and waiting time shortened.
The seven hospitals receiving Trust support are Pamela Youde Nethersole
Eastern Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Tuen Mun Hospital,
Prince of Wales Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital
and United Christian Hospital.
To ensure that our medical professionals have the necessary skills,
the Trust granted HK$28.2 million to the Chinese University of Hong
Kong in June 2004 towards the cost of setting up a Minimally Invasive
Surgery Skills Centre. It will be equipped with leading edge technology
to gear up the training and development of this new surgical skills
and techniques in Hong Kong.
